Jonathan Crane is a saxophonist, educator, and composer based in Utah. He has performed across the United States in cities including Los Angeles, New Orleans, Flagstaff, Indianapolis, Telluride, and Salt Lake City. He is currently pursuing a B.M. in Saxophone Performance at Brigham Young University, studying under Dr. Benjamin Nichols — Henri Selmer Paris Endorsed Artist — and Daron Bradford, primary clarinetist and woodwind doubler in the Orchestra at Temple Square.
Jonathan has performed with ensembles including BYU Synthesis, BYU Wind Symphony, The Crescent Super Band, UMEA All-State Wind Symphony, and The American Fork Symphony, among many others. He is proficient on soprano, alto, tenor, and baritone saxophones, as well as soprano clarinet, bass clarinet, and flute, with extensive experience in both jazz and classical performance.
He has shared the stage and recording studio with acclaimed artists such as Joshua Redman, Eric Marienthal, Wayne Bergeron, Francisco Torres, Paul Nedzela, Poncho Sanchez, Jeff Coffin, and more. In addition to performing, Jonathan has a private teaching studio for saxophone and clarinet students. He also composes music, and premiered his first big band jazz arrangement at the BYU Essentially Ellington Jazz Festival with BYU Synthesis and Joshua Redman.
